In Noirmoutier

Saturday April 28th and Sunday April 29th in Noirmoutier
150th anniversary of the death of St. Mary Eufrasia

A delegation, made up of 3 Sisters from the Congregational Spirituality Centre, one Sister from St. Pierre community of Angers, one lay person who was part of the choir for the celebrations of April 21st and 22nd and 2 other lay people working for the Sharing Fair shop, was happy to go to the birth island of our foundress on April 28th and 29th.  It was the opportunity to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the death of St. Mary Euphrasia with the inhabitants of Noirmoutier.

On Saturday, a beautiful sunny day, we went to the church of “la Guérinière” around 5 pm.

Barely arrived, every one worked hard to prepare the tables at the back of the church under the eyes of the statue of St. Mary Euphrasia. On the tables we placed the beautiful handcrafts done by the women all around the world which were sold for their profit after the mass.

For the entrance procession of the mass we brought a relic of St. Mary Eufrasia, an earth globe, flowers, candles, the beard and wine.

At 7 pm the church was full of people from Noirmoutier and tourists because of the spring school holidays. The Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Grégoire Cieutat, the parish priest of Noirmoutier. We participated in the liturgy through the organization of the entrance procession and the intercession prayers read by two Sisters.

At the end of the Eucharist the people were generous and supportive; some made a donation and others bought beautiful objects, tablecloths, dolls, bags and even Christmas decorations. When the last buyer left we carefully packed everything for the following day.

On Sunday, even if the day was dark and rainy, we started at 9 am to prepare the tables at the back of the St. Philbert church of Noirmoutier en l’Île.

The Eucharist started at 11 am in a church full of men, women and children, some people had to remain standing because seats were missing. Fr. Grégoire Cieutat celebrated the Eucharist with the help of a deacon, 10 altar children including 2 girls served at mass.

In Noirmoutier en l’Île we also participated in the liturgy through the organization of the entrance procession and the intercession prayer read by two Sisters.

At the end of the mass we reminded everyone that a film on the life of St. Mary Euphrasia would be projected in the church at 4 pm, followed by evening prayer and a conviviality time.

As it was still raining, many people came for this event which allowed us to get to know better St. Mary Euphrasia and to strengthen the links with the people of the parish of Noirmoutier who helped us in the preparation of this event.

The Sharing Fair shop collected a good amount of money.

We were all happy with the result of this event and we came back to Angers with joy in our hearts!
