The Word of God:
“Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10
Reflection
In the ever increasing stressful pace of our daily lives, stillness is not easy to come by. Even though our bodies might be still, our minds can be racing and pacing, and our emotions churning up within us. On the other hand, stillness isn’t necessarily about inactivity; our hearts and minds can be very still and centred, even though our bodies are active. Stillness is very much about consciousness, presence and focus. It is about our ability to simply be. Today’s card offers you a personal and intimate invitation from God to come into that space of being, where in the stillness, God is known. It is God, as expressed in God’s Word today, who chooses stillness as a sanctuary, as the sacred meeting place between heaven and earth. It is God who is at home in the stillness, and it is God who wants to be known in that stillness by you today. Coming into that sacred stillness is as simple, and at the same time, as daunting, as coming home to ourselves and finding God already there, waiting for us.
Ritual
Reflect on this notion of stillness and consider the things that prevent you from coming into stillness… the things that distract, disrupt and disturb the stillness you seek… Can you name in your heart what it is that you long for in that stillness…? Sit or lie comfortably…, close your eyes…, let your hands rest open by your side… Be aware of your breathing…As you breathe in and out slowly and gently, let your body and mind become quiet…, centred…still…. Rest in the stillness, in the company of God.
Remember
God is in the stillness of my heart.
