The Word of God:
“Peter felt the force of the wind and took fright… Jesus put out his hand at once and held him…” Matthew 14: 22- 33
There are some things that are just too big for us to face. There are experiences that really shake us to the core of our being and cause us to lose sight of who we are and what we are about. For Peter, the apostle, when he fixed his gaze on Jesus, he had the courage to do anything, even walk on water! But the minute he looked away from Jesus, he felt the force of the wind, and gripped by fear, he began to sink. But Jesus reached out his hand and held Peter firmly in his grasp. Today’s Word offers you some comfort in knowing that whenever you feel caught in the grip of doubt or fear, or lose focus or balance, Jesus is there for you, ready to hold you firmly, safely and lovingly in his grasp.
Pause and reflect now on some of the pressures that bear down upon you… the issues or experiences that cause you to lose focus, to doubt, to fear, to sink beneath it all… In that awareness, close your eyes and visualize the scene of Peter walking on water with Jesus beside him…Imagine the force of the wind and the fear that Peter would have known… Imagine now, Jesus reaching out to hold Peter… and as you do so, imagine that it is your hand that Jesus takes into his grasp… holding you firmly, lovingly to himself… Whatever fear or doubts you have let Jesus hold you close. Rest in the safety of His embrace.
Jesus is always there, reaching out to me.
